Terrible films that I love
American Ninja
I wasn't going to include this one as I genuinely love the film, but even I have to admit that it isn't really an objectively good film. It does however possess the greatest jeep crash scene in film history...
Anaconda
This one us worth it just for Jon Voight's leer. Oscar worthy.
China O'Brien
This isn't really a terrible film, but it's not good in the traditional sense either and the acting can at best be described as 'game'. It's good fun though and Cynthia Rothrock is always good value in the fight scenes.
D.O.A: Dead or Alive
I feel like they were aware that this one wasn't going to be good and they just had fun with it. Cheesy it may be, but I still think it's a daft yet enjoyable ride.
Deadly Prey
Just watch the clip below. I don't think I need say any more.
Death Wish III
This film is brilliant. It plays out like Streets of Rage: The Movie. It's so utterly ridiculous and 'cartoony' that I can't work out if they were going for a serious film or if they were just taking the piss. Either way it's great fun with beer and friends.
Double Dragon
So much cheesy fun. Everything about this film is ridiculous, but there's something so innocent about the whole thing that I can't help but love it.
Godzilla vs Megalon
I love Godzilla films but this one is both dreadful and brilliant at the same time. It is certainly a very different film to the original Godzilla (1954)! All sorts of insanity takes place on screen, including fist bumps between Godzilla and Jet Jaguar and this rather stunning move from Big G...
Hard Ticket to Hawaii
One of those films you really have to see to believe. Definitely best with beer and friends.
Masters of the Universe
I remember being so excited to see this after a friend saw it at the cinema and told me all about it. It's from Cannon films and stars Dolph, so what's not to like? OK, so it shamelessly rips off Star Wars and was so low budget that they had to write in an excuse to transplant the entire story to Earth, but this is still some high class camp.
Maximum Overdrive
Stephen King directed this one himself! It's a pure 'leave your brain at the door, stop being cynical and just enjoy the daft ride' classic. I go back to this one shockingly often!
Miami Connection
Just look at that poster at the top of the page. Incredible. And Dragon Sound are possibly the greatest band in the history of music. My words can't do this film justice.
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Yep, it's another game adaptation. And another cheesy one at that. If you can have half as much fun as Christopher Lambert is having hamming it up as Raiden then you'll be OK.
New York Ninja
A guy called John Liu wrote, directed and starred in this one in 1984 but then ran out of money (he must have spent at least $500 by the time he gave up) and the film was never edited or released. Over 35 years later Vinegar Syndrome found the footage (with no sound), edited it into a film and fully dubbed it, using cult b-movie actors for the voices. It proves to be every bit as fun as you might hope.
Ninja III: The Domination
One of those films where you read the plot and the first thing you think is 'This can't be a real film right?' and the second is 'If it is then it has to be from the 80s'. It is real, it is from the 80s and it's as stupid, ridiculous and fun as a synopsis will make it sound.
Raw Force
To quote Wikipedia:
"The Burbank Karate club travel to a forbidden island of disgraced martial artists to do battle with Zombies, mercenaries, cannibals and Kung Fu masters so deadly and sinister they had to be banished to the Island of Raw Force."
Can't really go wrong with that, can you?
Street Fighter: The Movie
The fourth and final game adaptation on my list. Everyone hated this when it came out as it barely resembled the game, Ryu and Ken were minor characters and it is essentially terrible. I've grown to love it over the years though in a cheesy 'so bad it's good' kind of a way. As have a lot of other people.
